focused on:

  • varying the size, shape, and placement of player cover

  • blocking sightlines between pathways

gameplay intentions:

  • make players think about their pathing and how best to navigate obstacles

  • force player/enemy interactions through spawner and bug hole placement

problems solved:

  • in other critical strike maps, players never utilized the full size of the large boss arena → shrunk the arena to ½ the size to encourage more intense, high-stakes gameplay

  • the dynamic weather system was continuously blocking player vision too much, and did not look good visually → worked with the unreal engine uds plug-in to adjust weather and storm values to ensure adequate player visibility
